INDIA STRENGTHENS AIR CARGO TRANS-SHIPMENT CONNECTIVITY
Dear Valued Customer,
India is taking another significant step towards becoming a stronger global air cargo trans-shipment hub.
Delhi Airport has expanded its Domestic-to-International Air Cargo Trans-shipment network through its Trans-shipment Excellence Centre (TEC), connecting:
🇮🇳 Bengaluru | Ahmedabad | Mumbai | Hyderabad
⬇️
🇬🇧 London | 🇩🇰 Copenhagen
The expansion follows a successful Chennai–Delhi–Frankfurt proof-of-concept, where approximately 280 MT of cargo was trans-shipped through Delhi.
🚀 Key Operational Impact
• End-to-end transit time reduced from approximately 60 hours to just 20 hours during the PoC.
• Air India’s monthly cargo carriage on the expanded routes is expected to increase by nearly 80%.
• The initiative is designed to reduce cargo turnaround time, handling costs and terminal congestion.
• The government plans to add more domestic origin stations and international destinations, further strengthening India’s role in global air freight.
💡 What This Means for Exporters
For time-sensitive and high-value shipments, improved trans-shipment infrastructure can create faster international connectivity, better cargo utilisation and greater routing flexibility.
As India continues to develop its air cargo ecosystem, such initiatives can open up new opportunities for exporters and businesses looking for efficient international air freight solutions.
Eskay Global Logistics continues to monitor developments across India’s air, ocean and multimodal logistics networks to help businesses make informed routing and freight decisions.
